Carlinville may have a new hotel going up soon, as investors have secured property on Route 4 on the south side of town. A foreclosed property just south of the former Glades Restaurant is now in the hands of investors looking at the possibility of building a Country Inn & Suites or Sleep Inn Suites. The plan has been in limbo as the property had a number of issues to overcome.
Among those were the foreclosure process, a fire in the building on the property during the foreclosure process, and the mortgage holder selling the property to an investor in India during the insurance settlement portion of the ordeal. Now that those issues have been rectified, the common thought is that the site could eventually host a two-story building with at least 60 rooms and an indoor pool. Carlinville would be able to support a hotel of this size, according to a recent feasibility study. New hotels are rarely built without such studies to support their plans.
