A driver may have suffered from a medical condition when he crashed into the side of the Duncan Wing at Alton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning. The elderly man apparently blacked out and his car struck the side of the building, resulting in minor damage to a section of the building near a patient room. The driver was taken via stretcher to the nearby emergency room for treatment.
A patient inside the hospital room was not injured, but was moved to another room after the crash. A hospital official said damage to the building was not serious, limited to the brick exterior, and some cracked drywall inside the room. The name of the driver of the car and his condition was not released.
