A candlelight vigil was held last night at Public School Stadium in Alton in honor of fallen St. Louis County Police Officer Blake Snyder. The vigil featured a wreath presentation from the Alton Police Department Honor Guard, speeches by those who knew him best, a video commemorating his life and hundreds of balloons released in his honor. Officer Snyder was a member of the Alton High School Class of 2001 and grew up in Godfrey.

Officer Snyder was shot and killed in the line of duty last Thursday morning after responding to the report of a disturbance at a home in Green Park, Missouri. A funeral visitation takes place Wednesday and a funeral service is set for Thursday in St. Louis County. Burial will be in Godfrey.
