There will be a few contested primary races for voters to decide on in March, including one for Madison County Sheriff and a local Congressional seat.   Sheriff Robert Hertz is facing a challenge in the Democratic primary from Glen Carbon Police Chief John Lakin, who is a former major in the sheriff's department.  Meanwhile, seven candidates have filed to run for the 13th Congressional seat currently held by Republican Rodney Davis.

Davis is being challenged on the GOP side from Erika Harold from Urbana and Michael Firsching of Moro.  Four Democrats have filed for the seat including former judge Ann Callis of Edwardsville, George Gollin and David Green both of Champaign and Bill Byrnes of Bloomington.  Republicans from Madison County announced Monday that County Treasurer Kurt Prenzler will run for re-election and current County Board Member Steve Adler of Godfrey will run for Madison County Clerk.  Party members also said they expected to field a candidate for sheriff but would wait until after the Democratic primary to make an announcement.
