Madison County Chief Circuit Judge Ann Callis has indicated she intends to continue serving the people of the region as a judge. Callis issued a statement on Monday saying she was not going to make a run for Congress, and instead remain on the bench. There had been speculation, including from county Democratic leaders, that Callis would run for the seat currently held by Jerry Costello who is retiring.

Callis said after speaking with numerous supporters, and her family, she decided to stay put and continue her current job and seek retention for circuit judge. Costello announced early last month he would not seek re-election in 2012 and instead retire from office. Several Republicans have already declared their intentions to run for the office, including former GOP Lt. Governor Candidate Jason Plummer. St. Clair County Democrats have endorsed former County Regional Superintendent of Schools Brad Harriman.
