It's the annual Burn Awareness Week as promoted by the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, and one local fire chief says you can protect yourself using some common sense tips. Over 450,000 burn injuries requiring medical attention happen each year, according to statistics shared by the organization, which is equal to one burn every 70 seconds.
Godfrey Fire Protection District Chief Eric Kambarian tells The Big Z electrical burns account for about 3,000 hospital admissions and 1,000 deaths each year.
