A burlesque show will not go on as planned this Saturday night in Alton. "Tassles & Tunes" had been booked at the Big Muddy Pub, but with opposition from the Mayor and Police Department, the show has been cancelled. Cobra Kai Entertainment promotes the shows which have been held in the past in the city.
As of now, only the music portion of the show will be allowed to go on, according to a post on the company's Facebook page. Alton Mayor Tom Hoechst was asked how burlesque differs from the "drag show" at another Alton bar.
The city has an ordinance prohibiting nudity or partial nudity. It has most often been used to crack down on bars along Broadway that allegedly encourage their bartenders to occasionally work topless. A representative from Cobra Kai was unavailable for comment on Monday.
