House lawmakers have approved a ban on the sale of bumper crib bumper pads in Illinois. Representative Emily McAsey of Romeoville, who says research has shown that thick bumper pads can be very dangerous, sponsors the legislation.

Bumper pads are already banned from use in licensed daycares in Illinois. This expanded ban would apply to both in-store and online sales and would not include thin, mesh crib liners. The bill now heads to the Senate and if signed into law, wouldn't take effect until 2018.
