Putting a stop to bullying is a lofty goal, but one that parents, teachers, law enforcement and health care professionals hope can someday be achieved. Victims can suffer harmful emotional and psychological effects that could last for years, and a number of local schools are observing Bullying Prevention Day Thursday.
One of those schools is East Elementary in Alton, where Principal Dr. Henrietta Young says combating bullying is a continual fight.

She says by preaching the message of getting involved, they can possibly break the “stop snitching” mindset when the students get older.
