The bulk recycling day for Alton residents last August was a successful event, so much so that both the city and Allied Waste are making plans to do it again this spring. The recycling drive was held at the old Alton Landfill. Over a ton of scrap metal and appliances were collected, along with 3.75 tons of electronic waste and over three tons of landfill waste.
Allied Waste's Susan Piazza says it went well, so there won't be many changes.
She says the one thing that surprised her was how many televisions were brought to the event. Many were the older-style console TV's. She also says she had hoped to save some furniture from the landfill and give it to a group that would reuse it, but found that most furniture that was brought in was not fit to salvage.
