Damage to the building that houses Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Alton has forced classes to be cancelled until further notice.  The damage was found this week at the rear of the building and the school principal is now trying to assess the damage and determine when, or if, it’s safe for students to return.

Saints Peter and Paul School principal Harry Cavanaugh tells the Big Z there are still a lot of questions and as of now, classes are cancelled until they have more answers.  He says inspectors will take a look at the damage and determine if it can be fixed or if they will have to abandon the building.  Cavanaugh says they are exploring all options and will consult with the Springfield Catholic Diocese as they move forward.  The school is currently on break for the holidays, but no classes will be held until further notice.
