With little if anything left to cut from the budget in Alton, aldermen have given first approval to the budget and appropriation ordinance for the coming year.  The city’s department heads gathered for the yearly budget meetings earlier this month, but no cuts were made to any line items.  It is a reality that has city officials dreading the possibility of legislation that could come from the state.

The budget for the coming fiscal year calls for a significant deficit.  The budget must be done by the end of June, but adjustments can be made until the end of September.
