An Illinois veteran has been reunited with the Bronze Star that he lost years ago.  State Treasurer Dan Rutherford made a special trip to Mount Vernon yesterday to return the star to Tommy Fenton.  The Jefferson County man earned the medal for his service in the Army's 2nd Ranger Battalion, 75th Infantry, based out of Fort Lewis, Washington.

The Bronze Star was one of dozens of items in a safe deposit box that were transferred to the Treasurer's Office back in 2010.  Rutherford returned the Star as part of his department's "Operation Reunite" program.  To see if you have property in the state's unclaimed property vault, go to this story at and follow the link.
