The closure of a portion of Broadway in Alton near Lincoln – Douglas Square will last longer than expected.  A water main break that happened in mid-April that washed out much of the ground underneath the pavement is being repaired, but the damage is more extensive than originally thought.  City workers have been busy fixing the broken sewer main tiles over much of the last two weeks.

And that work could last another week to ten days, according to Alton’s Public Works Director.  Bob Barnhart tells The Big Z crews continue to fix the damage, heading east on Broadway.

He says Illinois American Water is covering most of the cost of the project.
