Former Missouri U.S. Senator Kit Bond is endorsing Todd Akin a month after telling him to get out of the Missouri Senate race.  In a statement this weekend, Bond says Akin's comments about "legitimate rape" are still unacceptable but believes his regret over the matter "is sincere."

He also says Akin needs to be elected to the U.S. Senate to keep Democrats from controlling the U.S. Senate.  Akin has apologized several times for the comments, but refused to leave the race.  He's hoping to unseat Democrat Claire McCaskill.  McCaskill released her own statement on the endorsement, saying Bond (pictured) is supporting Akin only because of earmarks.
