Chicago-based Boeing announced a major move to the St. Louis area on Monday. The company confirmed it is bringing about 700 jobs to its defense works plant in St. Louis County as part of the 777X airliner project. Local workers will build parts of the wing and tail for the plane.
The new jobs will still be a few years away, with full production not expected until the year 2021 at the earliest. The project is also expected to bring additional construction jobs to the area with expansion at the plant to accommodate the new work. The 777X is part of Boeing’s 400-passenger, long haul fleet.
