A grade school student at Alton's East Elementary School discovered a dead body today.  The body was located in a wooded area next to school property just after noon.  It happened during recess for 4th and 5th graders.

Alton School District Assistant Superintendent Kristie Baumgartner tells The Big Z the staff immediately responded to the discovery.

Social workers will be available Thursday as well, and Baumgartner encourages parents to answer any questions their children may have.  If parents have any questions, she says you can call the district office at 474-2600.

Meanwhile, Alton Police issued a statement regarding the incident and says there did not appear to be any evidence of foul play at this time.  Family members of the deceased male were still being contacted, so additional details were not released.
