Firefighters from two departments responded to the report of a boat fire on the Mississippi River near Grafton on Sunday afternoon. The QEM Fire Protection District was able to pull the burning boat to shore before a combined effort with the Alton Fire Department extinguished the fire. The boat was heavily damaged in the incident, but its’ two occupants were able to escape without injury according to officials.
The Illinois Conservation Police and Jersey County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene to assist with traffic control in the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
