A Jersey County landowner with plans to pursue a plan to locate a medical marijuana cultivation center in the county has received the blessing of the Jersey County Board. At its most recent meeting, the board approved a letter of support for Scientific Growers Incorporated, which is eyeing up property near Fieldon.
John Shourd owns the land in question, and Jersey County Clerk Steve Pohlman says for the most part, the board seems fine with the prospect of that type of business coming to the county.

The only no vote came from Roger Newberry. This does not guarantee, however, that a cultivation center will be located in the county. The state is in charge of granting the licenses, and there will be only one granted per police district. There has also been interest in bringing a facility to Godfrey, but there does not appear to be as much support there.
