The immediate financial stability of the Bethalto School District will rely heavily on promised funding from both the federal and state level as the newly approved budget calls for $1.6-million in deficit spending in Health and Life Safety funds. Board members unanimously accepted the budget last night with no discussion needed.
District Business Manager Russ Clover says this situation is different from the one the board faced in 2010.
The budget will be balanced if funding is provided as promised. If that does not happen, Clover says that they will look for extra funding through any available grants. He also says the board will then consider taking any action to cut expenditures, including laying off teachers.
