The Alton School Board continues to focus on the extensive renovations that will take place at West Elementary with the approval of three more bids that will cover the costs of abatement work and the replacement of miscellaneous items such as doors and bathroom fixtures. Jun Construction was awarded two of the bids, the other was given to Morrissey Construction. The total cost of the bids was $307,810.
Alton School District Plant Facilities and Maintenance Administrator, Dave McClintock says that they should be ready to start construction at West by the first week in June.
In other business, board members also recognized the achievements of more than 40 students and teachers for a wide array of accomplishments. Among those recognized were the Alton High School Trebuchet and Alton High School Robotics teams, 8 students from the district who will be going to the Illinois State Young Authors Conference and 8 students who will be participating in the State Science Fair.
District Superintendent Dr. Ken Spells says that it was a good night for the district.
The board also announced an upcoming meet and greet to welcome Dr. Russ Tepen and Jeff Alderman to Alton High School. Tepen will take over as principal on July 1st while Alderman will be replacing Scott Harper as the schools athletic director. That event is scheduled to take place on April 23rd from 4-6pm in the Alton High commons.
