The Collinsville School Board has approved a proposal to cut the number of teachers, secretaries and custodians in the district. A total of 28 employees including 19 teachers, and 9 support staff employees will be laid off when the next school year begins this fall, saving the district an estimated $1.7-million.

The district is also looking to save an additional $700-thousand by offering an early retirement incentive to employees and by trimming the budget for equipment, travel, supplies, staff development and technology. The cuts follow the state's decision to cut district funding by nearly $3-million over the last two years.
