The Madison County Board of Appeals recently met at the site of a proposed Dollar General store development between Bethalto and Hamel.  A crowd gathered on a patch of gravel on the edge of a bean field Thursday to voice their opinion on the possibility of a new store there.  The site was at the intersection of Illinois State Route 140 and St. James road, about three miles east of Meadowbrook.

The land would have to be rezoned for that kind of business, according to Executive Vice President of the Overland Group Jacob Stauffer.

Resident of St. James Rd. Bonnie Sanderson says she thinks the store will draw more thieves to the community.

The Overland Group Inc. is the group planning and developing the project on land currently owned by Arboleda Partnership.  After hearing the opposition the Board of Appeals forwarded a negative recommendation to the Planning & Development Committee, which meets August 17th.
