A new gymnasium complex is in the works for Civic Memorial High School and Superintendent Dr. Cindy Blasa hopes to have that project finished by the time she retires in June. Blasa announced her retirement last fall. She has been superintendent since July of 2010, but has been employed by the district for 33 years.
The 3.2-million gymnasium project will include a new 10,000 square foot addition to the high school that will house a competition gym floor, a new weight training facility, locker rooms, bathrooms and seating for up to 600 people.
Blasa says she hopes the district will also continue to focus on technology. The 1 to 1 program instituted at the middle school that puts a laptop computer in the hands of every student was recently expanded to the high school, and she would like to see the younger students and teachers benefit from increased technology as well.
