A former top Democratic National Committee head has been given nine months home confinement for attempted extortion. Joseph Cari got the sentence today after admitting he tried to get a Virginia-based firm to give him a kickback for an Illinois contract.

Federal prosecutors have credited Cari for helping them put together their case against former governor Rod Blagojevich. Cari testified in Blagojevich's first trial but didn't in the second.
