Some call it shopping madness, others can't wait to check the sale ads and join the frey. No matter what your opinion, most people in business believe Black Friday is good for all businesses, even those that don't advertise in advance. Many national retail outlets opened at Midnight and will hold big sales all weekend.

Peter Gill with the Illinois Retail Merchants Association says deals advertised by big stores will invariably lead traffic to surrounding independent businesses.

Black Friday is the unofficial beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Driven by steep discounts it is traditionally the most busy shopping day of the year, although the Saturday before Christmas has been reported as when the most money is often spent.
