Wildlife officials say it's a rare sight: a black bear in Illinois. But that's what Winnebago County Sheriff's deputies discovered when they were called to a home in Rockford Saturday. According to the homeowner, the bear was eating berries and drinking out of a birdbath, but took off for the woods when authorities showed up.
There have also been black bear sightings recently in the towns of Freeport, Galena, and Stockton all in northern Illinois. Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials believe the bears are making their way south from Wisconsin while on the search for food.
