There's a new bill in the Illinois Senate that would provide for new rules as it relates to the appointment of members to the Southern Illinois University's board of trustees. It would call for an equal number of trustees from the SIU Carbondale and Edwardsville areas. The events of this past week is the reason Alton Senator Bill Haine says he introduced the bill.
A vote Wednesday to appoint three new members named this week by Governor Pat Quinn was a bust, with a vote of zero to 23.
There is plenty of speculation that the three members who were not retained to the board, Edwardsville School District Superintendent Ed Hightower, Alton attorney John Simmons, and businessman Mark Hinrichs of O'Fallon, were victims of politics.
