You donate money, land, an old car and you can write it off on your taxes. A bill in Congress would allow you to also claim a deduction for donating to food banks. Rural communities have not necessarily rebounded as well with the recession as some of the larger cities says Krista Lisser, spokeswoman for the Central Illinois Food Bank, which serves 14,000 clients a week through pantries in 21 Downstate counties. She does not offer a reason why the need has not slowed; all we can do is try to combat hunger.
