America’s Central Port District will soon be saying goodbye to Quarry Township. The township encompasses Grafton and a large portion of the Great River Road, but has asked to be removed from the district. It was originally included when the bill to expand the district was passed last year.
State Representative C.D. Davidsmeyer (R-Jacksonville) is the bill sponsor.

The executive director of the port district has said in previous interviews with The Big Z the district has never levied taxes, and does not anticipate that changing. That was one of the concerns of the Quarry Township leadership. Davidsmeyer’s bill passed in the House unanimously, and moves to the Senate for consideration.
