The southern two-thirds of Illinois is subject to mine subsidence. A bill sponsored by State Rep. Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) would provide some protection for insurance customers. “When people pay mine subsidence insurance, they expect to get that insurance,” Hoffman said. “However, when an event occurs, and there is mine subsidence, they should be notified that they don’t have to continue to pay that premium.”
