In the wake of the death of a bicyclist on the Great River Road, there is a renewed call for a maintenance and upkeep program on that bike trail. A couple of years ago this topic was the focus of discussions with many local governing bodies, and it appears this tragedy has brought the issue back to the forefront.
During last weekend’s memorial ride in honor of Carol Admire, who lost her life while biking the trail on May 23, the need for upgrades became evident to fellow cyclist Kristen Orban, who rides with the Wild Trak Bikes cycling team:

The bike trail, named after the late senator Sam Vadalabene, falls under a number of jurisdictions. IDOT is in charge of the trail from the time you leave Alton city limits until you get to Grafton.
