Motorcyclists from all over the area will converge on Roxana Sunday for the annual Blessing of the Bikes. Revered Larry Lacher, pastor of the Roxana Church of the Nazarene, will lead the crowd in prayers and offer prayers for those who gathered. The event began with a small crowd 16 years ago, has grown to a high of about 1,500 motorcycles in recent years.
The event will be held at Roxana Park, and is billed as a family friendly event for those who wanted to reverse the stigma sometimes given to those who ride bikes, that there is drug and alcohol abuse that follows. Co-organizer Larry Hatfield says the event has grown by leaps and bounds over the years.

Some groups and motorcycle clubs that will gather have a Christian theme, others are based on service, while still others are simply groups of friends and family who meet for recreation. A major part of the event is taking time to remember friends and loved ones who have died over the past year, including those who died while riding. Tomorrow's events will start at 11am and run until 2pm.
