Metro East officials traded ten-thousand dollars in free groceries for more than 100 guns. People were lined up early Saturday in East St. Louis to receive a 100-dollar Schnucks gift card in exchange for a firearm. A total of 130 guns were handed over, with one man trading five of them for 500 dollars in grocery gift cards.
The guns were purchased with confiscated drug money in St. Clair County. Of the 130 guns collected, 75 were in working condition. Last year, the same collection only netted 8 weapons. All of the guns turned in will be inventoried then melted down.
