Sports marketing is a niche that brings thousands of people to the Riverbend each year, and a major tournament has been announced for the area this summer. More than 3,000 people are expected for the first Kick It 3v3 Midwest Regional Championships Soccer Tournament July 28 & 29 at Gordon Moore Park in Alton.
Kick It 3v3 soccer uses a small field with six players on the field at a time, and teams will include boys and girls, ages 6 to 19+. Alton Regional Convention and Visitor's Bureau President Brett Stawar says hotels will be packed full that weekend.
In December 2010, the CVB assembled a Sports Committee comprised of representatives from park and recreation departments, athletic venues and hotels throughout northern Madison, Jersey and Calhoun Counties. By soliciting other sporting events, the CVB Sports Committee is hoping to grow the impact sports can have on the tourism partners throughout the region. Stawar says the Kick It 3v3 Midwest Regional Championships is a first step in that direction.
