You will likely see salt trucks on the roads this afternoon and into the evening as local road crews gear up for a winter storm that could bring as much as 10 inches of snow to the Riverbend. Forecasts call for up to seven inches of snow by tonight with an additional three inches possible before the storm comes to an end Monday evening. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning that takes effect at 3 p.m. this (Sunday) afternoon and runs until 6 p.m. on Monday. The Illinois Department of Transportation urges motorists to give crews plenty of room as they work and to remember to safe winter driving tips like increasing your following distance and reducing speed with winter precipitation on the roadways.
