A national retail chain is apparently eyeing up one of the busiest intersections in Jersey County, but those in the know are being tight-lipped about what business is considering a move to town. If it comes to pass, several businesses could be displaced at the crossroads of Illinois Routes 16 and 67, according to Alan Gilmore, CEO of the Jersey County Business Association.

He says businesses that traditionally follow the model of buying up a full city block include hardware chains and drug stores. In addition to that potential development, he says the creation of a TIF District will help keep the existing business district vibrant, as property owners will be able to use the TIF to make improvements to their utility service and other upgrades.
