A routine traffic stop leads to another major drug bust in southeast Madison County. Earlier this week, Illinois State Police stopped an SUV for improper lane usage on I-55 near Troy. A trooper asked for and got permission to search the vehicle. A K-9 was also requested, and allegedly "hit" on something inside the SUV. A subsequent search revealed nearly 330-thousand dollars worth of methamphetamine.
That works out to 3.6 pounds of the drug. After another major bust on an area interstate a couple of weeks ago, Illinois State Police Trooper Mike Link said it is important to get these drugs out of circulation.
31-year-old Julian Astorga Moreno (pictured) of Phoenix, Arizona is being held at the Madison County Jail pending federal charges for drug trafficking. The driver of the SUV and another passenger are also being held, pending possible deportation.
