Village leaders in Bethalto continued the process of updating the Comprehensive Plan by gathering public input during a pair of hearings Thursday. About 40 residents listened to presentations from the plan commission, representatives from St. Louis Regional Airport and the Bethalto School District before participating in a question and answer session. Several residents also used the public forum to share their vision for what Bethalto could become in the next 10 to 20 years.
Mayor Alan Winslow says he was a little disappointed by the turnout but still considers the meetings a success.

Winslow believes resident’s perception of the village as a “bedroom community” is right on the mark considering that Bethalto’s population has remained the same over the last 20 years. He also says that there is still a lot of work to be done and that the village will be seeking additional feedback from residents as the update process continues through an online survey. The Plan Commission will use that feedback to help create a final update which will be released later this year. You can take the survey by visiting:
