With funding secured, the village of Bethalto is moving forward with plans to expand the Bethalto Sports Complex. Governor Pat Quinn announced earlier this month that the village would receive $400,000 in state funding for the project through the Open Space Lands Acquisition Development program. That money will be used build four multi-use baseball diamonds, two little league diamonds, a football field, a soccer field, parking lots, the creation of a road connecting to Stadium Drive and a bridge connecting the new portion to the existing sports complex.
Bethalto Mayor Alan Winslow says that construction will begin before the end of June.
Winslow says that the completion of the second phase will open up the possibility of hosting more tournaments at the facility, which he hopes will help stimulate village's economy.
