The Bethalto Jaycees Country Fair is underway. This is the 50th anniversary of the event, which is one of the first carnivals of the year in the Riverbend. It is held at the Bethalto Park located behind Village Hall and next to the Bethalto Boys and Girls Club. New to the event this year is a competitive eating contest on Saturday.
That will feature many local competitors going up against World Champion Dale Boone in the T Mo's Taco Eating Contest. Event organizer Tab Roberson says this year's Country Fair will raise money to send disabled people to Camp New Hope.
There will be live music on stage each night, as well as the usual carnival fare of food, games and rides. Fair hours are from 6 to 11 pm tonight, Saturday noon to 11 pm, and Sunday noon to 10 pm.
