The first Halloween Parade of the season is almost here, with the one in Bethalto taking place around sunset tomorrow night. The 68th annual parade will roll through the old downtown area beginning at 6:30pm, starting at the tennis courts and finishing at the water department.
Kids who want to participate should gather at the tennis courts at 6pm Wednesday. Prizes will be awarded for costume creativity in different categories, according to Bethalto Rotary Club Vice President Margaret Opp.
The Bethalto Parade kicks off a busy final five days of the month. Thursday night in East Alton, activities starts at 6:30pm at Wilshire Village, goes down Shamrock to Smith Avenue, to Edwardsville Road and ends at the East Alton American Legion. There will be costume judging and awards will be given to contestants in a variety of age categories. Parades will be held in Wood River and in Hartford during the day on Saturday, and the 95th Alton Halloween Parade, which is believed to be the oldest in the country, will be held Monday night.
