St. Louis Regional Aiport in Bethalto could be the site of economic development in the near future after the Airport Authority approved several measures on Thursday. Among those were the purchase of 11.2 acres of land adjacent to the airport and plans to sign a contract with a developer in hopes of bringing light industrial and commercial buisness to the airport.

Several other options are being discussed as well including the redevelopment of the Wayside Estates subdivision which is located behind Bethalto Walgreens. They plan to use the estate company, J.G. Grewe to help market the land for development, but before that can happen their plans for development must pass FAA guidelines.

The board is also planning to reopen the Aiport ALN Restaurant that closed in 2010. There are currently 9 parties interested in reopening and running the establishment. However they are still accepting applications until February 29th.
