The Belleville City Council has approved a funding plan for a multi-million dollar development near the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. The council voted last night to approve Tax Increment Financing of nearly $16 million for a convention center, hotel, several restaurants, and a convenience store-gas station on Highway 15 across from the shrine.
The $50-60 million development would include a Hofbrauhaus brewpub, only the 8th location in the U.S., and the only one for the St. Louis area. There’s no word yet on the hotel chain name that will occupy the space, and developers are waiting on state approval of an enterprise zone, which would bring in $1.5 million in state incentives for construction. Once complete, the complex could bring in about a half-million dollars annually for the city of Belleville in tax revenue.
