As the state of Illinois continues to address financial issues, Democrat State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton is working to ease the burden that falls on local municipalities. He has joined a bipartisan coalition to pass a bill simplifying the way money is transferred and to decrease the time local governments must wait to receive funding from the state.
Beiser says this bill is part of a bigger puzzle and that this particular piece addresses an issue with how current law dictates how money is funnelled to local governments.
Some municipalities have waited as long as eight months before receiving promised funding. Beiser says that the Local Government Distributive Fund would improve the situation and allow those municipalities to more accurately budget based on when they receive funding.
House Bill 961 has passed through the House and is currently awaiting consideration in the Senate.
