A local lawmaker wants to clarify a piece of the Illinois law that allows video gambling. Democrat State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton says the intent was to include the Knights of Columbus and a few other fraternal organizations as places permitted to have video gaming terminals but the Illinois Gaming Board apparently interprets the existing legislation as not allowing such clubs to have the machines.
Beiser would expand the law to allow the games at "licensed social clubs."
The bill passed the House, but Beiser and fellow local Democrat Jay Hoffman were the only local lawmakers to support it. The measure is headed to the Senate, where Senator Bill Haine of Alton has picked up sponsorship.
