The Illinois House will be in special session a week from Friday, considering the expulsion of member Derrick Smith of Chicago. While lawmakers are there, Governor Pat Quinn wants them to consider pension reform. To that end, Quinn made an announcement recently that he would be calling the House and Senate for a special session to do just that. Democrat State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton (pictured) believes that to be disengenuous on the part of the governor.
In fact, Beiser believes Quinn is losing touch with the citizens of Southern Illinois.
Beiser says while addressing pension reform is on everyone's mind at the state capital, Quinn has not offered a plan, as would normally be the case if lawmakers were called back into a special session. Calling the special session could run taxpayers more than 40-thousand dollars.
