State legislators are gathering in Springfield today for a special session in hopes of solving the state's pension crisis. Governor Pat Quinn is calling for the Senate to hold a second vote on S.B. 1 while a group of Republicans is touting a different solution centered around changing the current system to a 401-k type program.
That disconnect is the reason that Alton State Representative Dan Beiser says he believes that the Governor called this special session too soon.
In order to get S.B. 1 through the Senate, supporters would need to have 20 legislators change their votes, something Beiser says is unlikely.
He believes that there won't be any real solution in sight until after the Governor's conference committee works out the differences between the measures that have previously passed through different chambers of the legislature.
