As organizers start making the final preparations for this year's Bethalto Homecoming they will be working on a new addition to the event. On August 31st a B-B-Q competition will be held on the grounds as part of the annual Labor Day weekend celebration. Bethalto Homecoming Association President Rich Mersinger says organizers have been looking for an event to hold in conjunction with the homecoming for a few years.

Mersinger says that the idea was proposed by a local church and that it has really taken off since. The competition will take place on a concrete slab between the fish stand and the grandstand at the park. Competitors will be required to bring their own grills and meats in order to participate. After cooking, entries will be judged by a panel with the winner receiving a prize.

The details on what that prize will be are still being worked out and Mersinger says that information about the cook-off, including entry forms will be posted to the Village website in the near future. You can find out more by calling 377-8051 or by visiting
