The Better Business Bureau says scammers are, as usual, playing on the fears of the vulnerable with a new round of scams. Callers posing as Internal Revenue Service agents are using coercion and threats to steal thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims, according to an investigator with the Better Business Bureau.
Recent statistics show about 3,300 victims have lost $17-million to the scam nationwide. In all cases, fake IRS agents call taxpayers and demand payment for back taxes. In many cases the scammers threaten arrest or deportation.
